Chapter Five- Where Is My Daddy?

04/20/1982

My mom and I had to leave our home for our own protection. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Somerville, MA. It was an extended stay, around Easter Sunday. Mommy got me a makeup Barbie head. She surprised me with a pretty dress, and we went with my nana to Auntie Kay’s house for Easter dinner.

For a long time I didn’t see my daddy and I really missed him. For a long while I didn’t even see my mommy. I just stayed close to my nana’s side and we went everywhere together. She was my best friend ever! One day while we were going down Magazine St. I decided to run ahead of her and she screamed, “Bea stop running! God’s gonna punish you!” I just kept running ahead not paying any mind until it happened…. I tripped over the curb skinning my knee. Then I see my nana putting a little pep in her step to catch up to me. Then she say’s, “see I told you he was gonna punish you.” I retorted back; “Well he didn’t have to push me!”

I kept asking my nana, “Where’s my mommy and daddy?”My nana would say good question? I don’t know. Let’s ask your mother!”Then she would proceed to pick up the phone and dial just to get a busy signal. When my ma finally did get to show her face my nana was outraged with my ma, “What the hell are you doing! This kid has been asking for you. She is your responsibility Brie, if you didn’t want her you shouldn't have had her.” Then ma scooped me up and took me to Auntie Kay’s house and left me there.
My ma started seeing some weird, short, Portuguese dude named Nick. He smelled fishy and had a mustache, he also talked a funny language I had never heard before. Every time he spoke English he sounded funny and I saw him kiss my ma on the lips, and I know my daddy would not let that go. When he was driving us to the mall one day, I kept asking my ma, “Where is my daddy?” I must have asked that same question 30 times and Nick said to my Ma, “What is Bea talking about?” And my ma said to him, “I don’t know. Do you mind pulling over so I can talk to my daughter please?”

So Nick pulled over and let us out. My ma and I stepped into a phone booth and picked up the phone pretending to make a phone call. She handed me the receiver and said, “Listen Bea, you have to stop.” Then I retorted, “ Stop what?” My ma replied, “Stop asking that question.” I yelled at her “ Why? Where is he? I miss my daddy. I want my daddy!” My ma said, “He is not your father!” I questioned her again, “He’s not my daddy? Where is my father?” My ma then retorted, “He’s dead now shut the hell up and get in the goddamn car.”

After I got in the car. I started crying a little bit thinking about Lenny, I couldn’t believe he wasn’t my daddy. Will I ever see him again? Was this new guy Nick gonna be my father now? I was so confused. What about my real father? Did my real daddy have a name? What did he look like? And what did dead mean? I cried myself to sleep. When we got home I pretended to be asleep so my ma would carry me in and embrace me because I felt so alone. Instead, I have this strange man carrying me up the stairs and putting me to bed in a new home, in a new bed, and in a room all by myself. This change really scared me. I cracked open my door to see my ma sniffling and wiping her nose, Nick did it to. Were they sick? I don’t know but it looked like they were smelling baby powder. Whatever it was they kept doing it, sniffling and wiping. All I wanted at that moment was my daddy because it didn’t seem like my ma wanted me around.
I was so sad so I cried myself to sleep again.

Chapter Four - Police Task Force

04/15/1982

One evening in the middle of April, I was only four years old at the time. I recall taking my daily bath, and on the verge of getting dressed when I heard a gigantic pop!

That startled me so that I ran to my mom because I was scared. Afterward, I found out that the noise came from my dad cleaning his shotgun while it was still loaded. It blew a hole right into the ceiling. I don’t think mommy thought daddy was using his brains, because that is what she yelled at him after she witnessed the hole in our ceiling.
Brie yelled at my dad, “what the fuck were you thinking? Don’t you know we have people living above us?” My dad replied, “Yeah so?” Brie retorted, “You could have killed somebody you know?” My daddy was a tall man 6’1, hair dirty brown, shoulder length, and his build was thin but muscular. There was never a time when my daddy didn’t have a beer in his hand. Today my daddy and mommy had a lot to gripe about.

While they were fighting my daddy made Brie look at the hole on the ceiling and said, “See Brie, if I killed somebody there would be blood where that hole is right here. Do you see any blood? Then I didn’t kill no one, so lay off!” Then my mommy said, “Well just to make sure I’m calling the police.” My dad said, “Ooh no you won’t.” Mom said, “Are you out of your mind Lenny?” That was his real name Lenny but I just called him daddy. I idolized him and knew whatever daddy said goes. Apparently, my mommy didn’t think the same way I did and immediately she picked up the phone and started dialing 911.

Right away, Lenny ripped the phone out of her hand and pushed her into the stove; quickly hanging up the phone. The phone fell off of the receiver just dangling. When my mommy tried to grab for the phone he slapped her really hard across the face. My mommy instantly covered her cheek with one hand, crying and yelling with the other hand, pointing her finger and saying; “How dare you put you hands on me like that!” My daddy grumbled under his breath “Humph, fucking women!” He beat her real hard right in front of me. I just curled up in the corner crying in fear. I dare not say a word. I was petrified thinking he might turn on me. Then he said, “Don’t you realize I have kilo’s hiding in the basement? You bitch! Call those police and I will kill you.” I could tell he meant it too. The phone was just dangling off the hook and making a large quacking sound. I was alarmed.
I slept with my mom every night for quite some time throughout childhood due to this experience. It truly did traumatize me.

The following morning I woke up before everybody else like I always did. I saw this man I had never seen before sleeping on the yellow cot. Then I heard a banging on the front door. The banging was very hard and loud, and I heard someone say in a loud magnified voice “It’s the police open up! We got you surrounded. I was way too scared to open that door, I kinda just slink at the top of the stairwell watching from above as the police swat force kicked in our front door. I jumped up so fast. Running to my mommy’s bed screaming, “Mommy! Mommy! They’re coming! They are coming!” I hid under the covers crying like a baby.

Eventually after the air cleared I saw them put handcuffs on the man who was lying on the yellow cot, and they took him off to jail, at least that is what they told me. Then they asked me some questions about where my daddy was. I told the cops, “I haven’t seen him, but I don’t want you to take my daddy to jail because I love him and we need him. Take my uncle Jay instead he’s been there before.”

Well, they recorded, documented, and printed what I said in the Boston Herald, and that it was a hostage situation. The following day as I sat there and watched my Uncle Jay reading the Boston Herald with his legs crossed, and he then puts the paper down sucking his buck teeth, turns to me, and say’s; “Really Bea? That’s what you said?” I retorted, “Yeah! They can’t take my daddy. I don’t want them too. You seem to like jail since you keep going there.” My uncle Jay just smirked and snuffed a ridiculous laugh in the back of his throat snorting, which allowed me to laugh along with him. I’m really glad he wasn’t mad at me.

Chapter Two & Chapter Three- Welcome to the USA & The Rebel Without A Cause

Chapter Two - Welcome to the USA

1/1/1982

Once the Coyote crossed the border safely into San Antonio, Texas with the Sanches family, Mr. Sanchez was pleasantly awaiting their arrival. Mrs. Sanchez missed her husband so that she greeted him with heartfelt tears and an embrace so strong that they were overwhelmed with joy.

Most importantly was their understanding due to the sacrifice they had to make in order to survive the tyranny of their communist government. The Sanchez’s decided to leave behind everything they had known to get a fresh start in a new country where they couldn’t even speak their language. They knew the dangers and obstacles would be apparent, but through faith and belief in what they had already overcome, that little separation between them one day they would be reunited with their loved ones. Here they were now together as last.

Mr. Sanchez was a worker who was a skinny, tall, and handsome young man around 21 years of age. He was a very charismatic fellow, always showing his character with his nice smile and sense of humor. He always had grit and oil stuck under the bed of his nails, for he learned a trade as a mechanic. He could fix just about any car with his keen intellect through trial and error.

Mr. Sanchez had worked in the USA for three years and finally saved up enough money between now and then to pay this Coyote very graciously. He knew the Coyote very well, for they had become great friends when Mr. Sanchez himself crossed the border with the Coyote three years prior. He knew the Coyotes services were worth every single penny, for his child and wife were alive and that is all that mattered to him. The Coyote called Mr. Sanchez “A long dong”, which was a funny joke they created together on their trip into the USA. One day “A long dong” will share this adventure story with his son Sal Jr.

Mr. Sanchez went by the name Saul as well. Mr. Saul Sanchez and he was proud of it too.

The Coyote appeared to be around the age of thirty and never did give Mr. Sanchez his real name due to his occupation which was real hush hush. This short Latin lover did keep in touch with the Sanchez family over the years. It brought joy to his heart to finally be able to unite them.

The Coyote always wore a Panama Jack hat to keep the sun off of his face. For over all the years of strolling through the desert he had acquired sun poisoning on his head and face. Since then, Mrs. Sanches learned this from the Coyote and promised herself she would always wear a hat or use an umbrella as well. So, with a tip of his hat the Coyote said his farewells to the Sanchez family and was back on his way to Nicaragua.

Mrs. Sanchez, A woman who was the same age as her husband, was a short and stout lady with the fire and spirit of a lion. She possessed the prettiest smile though her heart was very kind until you pissed her off and then the lion in her would attack. Her caramel skin tone was flawless. As you well know since the dog incident, she was already very protective to those she loved.

Saul was Mrs. Sanchez only son thus far, and she was getting prepared to have another. Saul had the same features as his mom, flawless soft caramel skin, almond shaped brown eyes, auburn hair with red highlights, and the distinct shaped nose of a Mayan Indian. Almost like a miniature version of Mrs. Sanchez except shorter and male, not female. Mayan's are flat footed which is a very prominent feature.

Luckily, Mr. Sanchez had a plan. He told his family that he had put some money to the side. He would continue to work and save until the Sanchez family would have their own roof over their heads.

At this time they did have a place, but it wasn’t their own. The church had taken them in for a short span of time and Sal had to be left alone for a little while so his parents could work and save money faster to secure stability in Saul’s life. Mrs. Sanchez were incredibly grateful to the church and found trust in the people who welcomed them kindly.

03/31/1983
The day finally came when the Sanchez family would leave the hospitable church, and they knew that immigration control would eventually catch up to them. So they set their eyes on
Hollywood…. That’s where they began to make their fresh start. In good ole Cali-fornication. Guess what? Mrs. Sanchez was
Expecting as well now. She was about 5 months pregnant, hoping for a little girl.

The Sanchez were able to get a very small one bedroom apartment. They started off with nothing, having to sleep on the floor until they were able to afford a mattress. They had to eat very meager portions of food because they would have to divvy it out sparingly. Mrs. Sanchez, having to eat for two, was limited which made her pregnancy hard. She was always hungry, irritable, and couldn’t work. Eventually Mr. Sanchez had to pick up more jobs
to make their ends meet, and get some furniture in the little apartment they called, “en la casa”.

Chapter Three- The Rebel Without A Cause

12-27-1977 _ Pink Floyd- The Wall

Today was the day! Ed was going to ask Brie to be his girl. They were going to go steady and he was going to pop the question right in front of her folks. Ed was a twenty-three-year-old man going for a seventeen-year-old girl. It would seem highly unreasonable for him to go with a teenage girl unless he put a ring on it. It was really Brie’s idea so her parents would let her go off with Ed to a Pink Floyd concert that was happening this very night at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Boston.

Ed was a rebel without a cause. He just wanted to party and get fucked up all the time. He was tall, about 6.3”, dark brunette with long hair, deep dark brown eye’s that Brie just got lost in. It was only fair that Ed get down on one knee for Brie because he really seemed to love her. Ed almost wasn’t successful in doing so for his pimp purple polyester suit was a little too tight, and ripped at the seams as he bent. Needless to say Mr. and Mrs. Horowitz (Brie’s parent’s) were shocked, and Brie could not stop giggling because she knew Ed wasn’t serious. Brie still said “Yes!” anyways, hugging and boasting with Ed as they slid out the front door.

Right before they made their way into the concert Ed and Brie slipped some gel tabs into their system for they knew the turnout for this psychedelic show would be enormous. Brie was a skinny little girl about 5.7”, dark curly hair, and breathtakingly beautiful. Her smile was really her signature.

People were crowd surfing, smoking pot everywhere, raising their lighters up to the ceiling. Every kind of drug under the giant pink blown up elephant was there; acid, cocaine, nitrous oxide, marijuana, wafers, and LSD. Brie and Ed were loving each other to the point of ecstasy under a statue at a Pink Floyd concert, and that was how I was conceived.
My name is Beatrice but my friends just call me Bea. Yes, so my mom and dad were drug addicts and what else is new in this world? On the day of my birth epidural shots were uncommon . The next best thing for the labor pains, and nobody back then really fucking cared like they do now about abolishing the drug, marijuana which was an easy to attain herbal remedy.

I was a beautiful baby girl, born June 13, 1978. I started out as a brown haired blue eyed baby and ended up with blonde hair, brown eyed little girl. What can I say like a chameleon I adapt and change colors? I personally think that I am split down into two personalities: the angel vs. the devil.

One day while I was lying on the floor watching the first superman movie ever released I was 18 months old and playing with the TV when it fell on my head, and the edge crashed down on the bridge of my nose. I screamed so loud Brie had to lift that anvil off of me, pressing ice to my nose. My mom did her best to protect me, since my dad was too busy with his dealings. Another day while my mom and dad were fighting over spilt milk at the grocery store, I stood up in the shopping cart trying to pull a McGyver just to fall flat on my head and split it wide open. Ed couldn’t seem to take it no more. I was twenty-one months old when my dad Ed left. I guess he couldn’t take me being his kid. Too much stress for him.

Ever since those two traumatic head injuries I haven’t been the same. When my mom called my name I rarely heard her I would just stare into space at the TV not even a blink of an eye, comatose, and it took several beatings to get through to me.

Chapter One - WETBACKS!

6/13/1978

The 30 Year war. The Conquistadors vs. The Sandinista's, Central America. Mr. Sanchez fled the communist government in Nicaragua to the United States of America to be liberated from Ortega Vega communism. Mr. Sanchez crossed the border to find work in America and start a newer and freer life in America “Land of the free”.

Mrs. Sanchez just had a new born baby, and when that baby turned four years old Mr Sanchez saved up enough money to bring his family to America. Mrs. Sanchez was a school teacher and was threatened death by the Sandinista Government if she continued teaching. Mrs. Sanchez, the Coyote, and Saul (Mr. & Mrs. Sanchez little boy) walked through the hot desert of Mexico 6 days and 7 nights in the middle of April 15, 1983. The boy, only five years old, at the time suffered from heat stroke and had to swallow his own urine to stay alive. Many were the dangers along their travels. Finally they met the Rio Grande. Nearby was a shack where they chose to rest for the day because the child was too weak to carry on.

The following days Saul was able to regain his strength and one day while he enjoyed skipping rocks along the river bend, a dog crept up behind Saul and attacked him. Mrs. Sanchez, being the overprotective mother that she was, struck the dog on the head with a rock putting the dog to rest. Saul never did like dogs ever since. When dusk set in the three of them set out to cross the Rio Grande River. Saul did not know how to swim and almost drowned this night, but luckily for him the Coyote was a strong swimmer. He was successfully able to fight against the strong current of the river; and get across with Saul on his back. The Coyote was trained to survive and guide, and that's what he certainly did for the Sanchez family. He knew all the right paths to take throughout the back woods of New Mexico and over the fence into Texas.

What Americans did was label these immigrants as wetbacks. At the time Ronald Reagan, president of the United States of America, was granting Asylum to immigrants that were fleeing their countries due to communism and the 30-year war in Central America. The only way for these immigrants to get into America was to get their backs wet and cross the Rio Grande River and dare not turn back or they may lose their lives to the border patrol. Hence the label that ignorant Americans use towards immigrants as “Wetbacks!”.

A Mess- by, T

Your head is a mess of guilt and self hatred.
Of letters unopened, of jobs left undone, bills left unpaid, summons ignored.
The reaper too grim, too ghastly to face.
Loud bang at the door, you squirm and hide. A demand for your blood, your spirit, your life.
You wait for the axe, the force and blow.
He leaves you to die by the side of the road.

Let Him Go!- (Synopsis) by, B' onnie

Ok peeps,.....

You already know it's complicated as most relationships are. In my case I am deeply compassionate for this one man. LOVE gives u instant butterflies in your stomach, and just the sound of their name or the thought of them makes you feel like your on cloud nine. Yes, this does occur even as you get old, but it's more rare. Yes it still happens and you become more aware of what real love is as you become wiser to recognizing the difference in feelings. It does suck when they are in denial and keep on rejecting you, well it is time to let them go, but it's really not that easy when you feel you found true love and you haven't found anyone else who can measure up to the same feeling that one person gives you, but it's complicated. Like I said.

Give your worries to the LORD, and he will take care of you. He will never let good people down. Psalm 55:22

So this is how I perceive his love for us to bring love to us. The LORD may not always give us what we want for he knows that perhaps that messenger was not good enough for you and doesn't deserve your love, for he knows what you need and he knows the perfect messenger to wrap your love around. In due time as one grows more sure of who they are without interference you will soon understand and become more aware that this man you were madly in love with,is not the one. For your true soul mate would NEVER dismiss your pleas for love for a whole year. It's true that this love connection should have been too powerful to break. If that other person allows that viable source to break, well the only thing you can conclude is that it wasn't meant to be and try and move on.

I KNOW IT'S A LOT EASIER SAID THAN DONE, trust me I've been in love with the same man for 11 years and it took me 8 of those years to figure it out because I was in denial. I have learned that NO matter how much you want it to be him, if he is not receptive, well that only means something better is behind that other curtain.

DREAM (REVOLUTION Lyrics) by, B' onnie

DREAM  lyrics by, B' onnie

This is my dream
and I'm going to go for it.
With or without you.
Your not holding me back.
I had enough of that crap.
I wish I could fly
And touch the clouds in the sky.

(Dream)

Be calm and be true
And you can make it through
All those hurdles and bumps
Turn to yourself
Don't look to nobody else
It's one of those things
We all have to go through
To find out what makes you
You.

(Dream)
